Rockhampton Regional Council has today unveiled a new pool hoist at the Gracemere Pool, delivering improved disability access for the community.
Fully funded by Council, the new hoist features a pool lift chair and standard sling, marking a major accessibility upgrade for the facility, which previously relied on manual lifting and ladder entry.
Parks, Sport and Public Spaces Councillor Cherie Rutherford said Council was extremely proud to provide the hoist at Gracemere Pool.
"We know the wonderful benefits that swimming provides for health and wellbeing, so to allow users with accessibility needs a more dignified way to access and use the Gracemere Pool is a significant win for the community," Cr Rutherford said.
"In consultation with the Department of Education, this hoist was chosen to benefit both students at local schools and the general community who need additional support to access the pool.
Divisional Councillor Edward Oram said Gracemere was a growing town servicing a large area so to provide disability access for school students and community members is critical.
"I am pleased that council was able to include the purchase and install of this lift in our facilities Capital budget at a cost of $32,000," said Cr Oram.
The Gracemere Pool, a 25-metre pool at Fisher Street Gracemere, is operated by Light Aquatics, which provides community access outside of school hours.
The pool reopens for community use on Tuesday 1 September 2026 with opening hours: Monday to Friday 6am to 8.30am and 3pm to 6pm, weekends 9am to 5pm and 9am to 5pm public and school holidays.
