Grant Program to Boost Women's Sports Participation

Tasmanian Government

A new grant program to support women and girls' sport participation programs opens today.

Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the Her Path to Play program will support a range of initiatives and projects to increase women and girls' involvement in sport and active recreation at all levels, in every corner of Tasmania.

"The program encourages greater involvement of women and girls across various sporting roles including players, coaches, officials, administrators and other leadership positions," Minister Duigan said.

"Our Government is committed to levelling the playing field and increasing access and participation for females.

"The Tasmanian Government is committing $400,000 to support organisations to deliver projects that specifically cater for the needs and interests of women and girls, and to help address some of the common barriers to participation.

"Tasmanians who completed the Women and Girls Sport Strategy consultation survey in 2025 reported a need for more social and flexible options in spaces that were welcoming and friendly to encourage greater participation of women and girls.

"Our Government is delivering on that through these grants."

Organisations can apply for grants ranging from $1,000 to $20,000.

The Her Path to Play program aligns with the priorities in the Tasmanian Women and Girls Sport Strategy 2026–2032, which was recently released after extensive sector and community consultation.
