A range of local projects and initiatives will soon be underway across the Colac Otway region with Council's endorsement of 95 grants worth over $300,000 through the 2026-27 Grants Program.
Council's Grants Program contributions are a partnership between local not-for-profit organisations, community groups, businesses and the farming community through four funding streams:
- Community Grants - 57 projects and initiatives totalling $175,759
- Events Grants - 31 events totalling $117,461
- Business Grants (Building Facades) - 7 business projects totalling $14,611
- Trees for Farms – 12 applicants received a total of $33,500 for native tree planting on commercial properties.
Mayor Jason Schram said the Grants Program created strong partnerships between Council, community groups and businesses across the Shire.
"The range of grant applications highlights the incredible people and organisations across the shire and diversity of groups and projects," Cr Schram said.
"There's a wide range of projects focused on everything from community participation and skill-building to improved facilities, business facades and local events.
"A lot of great work is happening across the Shire, often driven by volunteers and local organisations who know their communities well and make valuable social and economic contributions.
The Grants Program continues to provide opportunities for local ideas to take shape, helping groups build on existing work or try something new in response to local needs.
"Council thanks everyone who submitted an application and congratulates all successful applicants. We acknowledge the effort that goes into developing and delivering these projects – we're proud to partner with you."
In 2026-27, Council introduced a new funding stream, Trees for Farms Grants.
The Trees for Farms funding scheme was introduced into this year's Grants Program supporting native Australian tree-planting projects to strengthen sustainable and efficient farm production and deliver environmental benefits.
Cr Schram said the new funding program was well-received by the Colac Otway farming community.
"Our farmers have been doing it tough over recent years. This funding offers practical support to help strengthen the long-term productivity and resilience of farms," Cr Schram said.
