Wollongong City Libraries is joining the Great Book Swap during NAIDOC Week from 7-14 July, to help raise funds to donate 35,000 new books to remote communities.

Wollongong City Council Deputy Lord Mayor David Brown said: "All our libraries will be holding a book sale with our retired stock, where people can swap a book for a gold coin."

"The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally and raise much-needed funds for remote communities.

"Having books on hand, whether at home, at school or in community meeting places, and providing early literacy programs, lay the foundations for lifelong learning and a love of reading."

If people would like to donate directly, they are able to via our fundraising page – https://go.greatbookswap.org.au/EventDetail/7011J000001QpBg/Wollongong-City-Libraries-Great-Book-Swap.

All funds raised from the Great Book Swap will go to the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across the country by Australians from all walks of life each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
