Griffith Leagues Club has just announced they are part of the free Great Southern Nights initiative, hosting their own event with Rai Thistlethwayte from Thirsty Merc on Friday 27 November 2020, 7.30pm.
An initiative of the NSW Government and Destination NSW in partnership with the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), Great Southern Nights is a music event which aims to bring 1000 COVID-safe performances to live music venues in NSW as part of Australian Music Month.
Brittany Alpen, Marketing and Promotions Manager at Griffith Leagues Club said Great Southern Nights is being delivered to stimulate the revival of the live music and entertainment sectors and in turn the visitor economy.
"Griffith Leagues Club and Pristine Productions have been working together, looking at ways to host live music and promote local acts within the region – after Thirsty Merc's success when visiting the Griffith Leagues Club late last year, we said any opportunity we could get to bring bigger acts to Griffith for the community, we would!" said Ms Alpen.
"Unfortunately, COVID-19 hit and clubs across the nation were forced to close, leaving musicians with no gigs and no opportunity to attract bigger events for our region.
When Mark told me about a grant he was investigating which aimed to bring live music back to regional NSW, we knew it was an opportunity not to be missed – we are so grateful to have been selected as a grant recipient and beyond excited to be able to host Great Southern Nights at the Leagues Club," she added.
Supporting Thirsty Merc's Rai Thistlethwayte from 7:30pm will be talented local musicians, Harriet Kelly, Ben Ceccato and Ali Ratcliffe.
Griffith City Council's Tourism Manager, Mirella Guidolin said, Griffith is so fortunate to have a venue such as the Griffith Leagues Club, supporting live music even through tough times such as these.
"This is a great way to kick start live music, and support our local performers – we are very lucky to have a huge selection of talented artists in Griffith and I would encourage you to get out and support them," said Ms Guidolin.
