Green Bin Or Red Bin? Not All Weeds Are Same

When you're gardening, most green waste can go straight into your green bin. But some weeds need a different approach to stop them spreading into gardens and bushland.

The key rule is simple: if a weed has seeds, berries, tubers, rhizomes or any part that can regrow, those reproductive parts need to go in the red bin.

Watch our video that explains which weeds belong in the red bin and why. You can find the video on our invasive weeds webpage or on Youtube.

Our invasive species officer Paul Martin is the star in the video and covers common problem plants like asparagus fern, turkey rhubarb, Japanese honeysuckle, Madeira vine, bamboo, succulents and aquatic weeds.

Putting the right weeds in the red bin helps us produce better quality mulch and protects our environment.
