The Council of Mayors (SEQ) welcomes the recent City Deal funding announcement delivering $20 million in joint investment to green infrastructure projects across South East Queensland.
Delivered through the Green Urban Infrastructure Initiative under the SQ City Deal, a partnership between the Australian Government, Queensland Government and the Council of Mayors (SEQ), the initiative supports council-led projects that reduce urban heat, improve green connectivity, and promote healthier, more liveable communities.
The first round of funding has been awarded to the following projects, supported by matched co-contributions from participating SEQ councils:
- City of Moreton Bay – $2,629,05
Cool City Streets - Shade Tree Planting Program, delivering 3,500 native street trees across 12 activity centres.
- Ipswich City Council – $4,155,563
Ipswich Central Urban Greening, enhancing Ginn, Nicholas and Limestone Streets with trees, shade structures and new green spaces.
- Logan City Council – $3,912,895
Mabel Park Green Infrastructure Enhancement Project (Stage 2) – transforming a concrete channel into a naturalised corridor with pathways, vegetation and more than 100 shade trees.
- Somerset Regional Council – $4,161,537
Lowood Futures Strategy - Green Botanic Core (Stage 1), creating a cool, shaded community destination
