Community-led projects that are safeguarding and preserving City of Logan's natural environments will be honoured at this Sunday's Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF).
Thirty-eight EnviroGrants totalling more than $174,000 will be awarded by Logan City Council as part of a bumper LEAF program that promotes and encourages sustainable living.
Another focus of the festival will be the announcement of this year's World Environment Day calendar competition winners.
Each year, City of Logan primary school students compete to have their environmental poster featured on the calendar cover. Other winning entries are also selected to illustrate each month.
Environment Chair, Deputy Mayor Jon Raven, said it was important for Council to provide support to individuals and groups who are helping protect City of Logan environments.
"The recipients of this year's EnviroGrants are doing amazing things for our local wildlife, for our local plant species and to help educate our communities on the importance of protecting our local ecosystems," Councillor Raven said.
"Our talented young people are also inspiring and reminding us on the importance of protecting our City's natural environment.
"Council knows how important the environment is to our residents and we're proud to work with our community to celebrate that."
A huge entertainment line-up will feature at Sunday's LEAF.
Television personality and "friend of the festival" Costa Georgiadis, from ABC's Gardening Australia, will share his passion for all things gardening and the outdoors. He is on the LEAF Stage at 1.40pm.
On the Kids Stage at 10.15am and at 12.15pm, Dirtgirl and Scrapboy, of ABC Kids fame, will present their Grubby Bucket Show which includes a mud-pie bake off for those who want to get involved.
There will also be plenty to see on the Homegrown Cooking Stage, where former Masterchef contestant Georgia Barnes will give advice on eating meat-free on Mondays, and how to make the most of leftovers.
City Lifestyle Chair Councillor Laurie Koranski said LEAF is one of the biggest events on the City of Logan calendar and there would be something for everyone on Sunday.
"LEAF is all about having a great day out, while also learning some fantastic tips and tricks on living more sustainably," Cr Koranski said.
"After the event had to be cancelled last year because of pandemic restrictions, LEAF has come roaring back with a fantastic range of presentations, exhibitions and entertainment.
"It's going to be our best LEAF ever and I can't wait to see everyone enjoying everything the festival has to offer."
The Logan Eco Action Festival is on Sunday, May 23, at the Griffith University Logan campus, University Drive, Meadowbrook.
It begins at 9am with free parking onsite.
