It's time for a backyard blitz, and your chance to give back to the community at the same time.
From Saturday 16 August to Sunday 24 August, Council is offering free green waste disposal to residents at the city's transfer stations.
Whether you're tidying up your yard or helping a neighbour clean theirs, this is the perfect time to pitch in and help keep our neighbourhoods looking great.
While you're dropping off your clippings, consider making a gold coin donation to support FNQ Wildlife Rescue Association, the local volunteer group that's been rescuing and rehabilitating sick and injured native animals across our region since 1994.
Your small donation could help save a wallaby, nurse an injured frog, or get a bandicoot back on its feet. It's a simple way to turn your yard waste into something wonderful while supporting our local wildlife and the volunteers who care for them.
Participating transfers stations are:
- Portsmith Transfer Station
- Smithfield Transfer Station
- Gordonvale Transfer Station
- Babinda Transfer Station
Note: this offer is for domestic cars, utilities and/or trailers and light trucks (vehicle weight to GVM 4.5 tonnes). Normal rates apply for disposal of any other waste during this period, including green waste from garden maintenance contractors on behalf of residents.
