Greens Say Abolish Lease Break Fees And Cap Rents

Australian Greens

The Victorian Greens say lease break fees should be abolished and that if Labor was listening to renters they'd know that the cap they really want is a rent cap.

It comes after the government announced that lease break fees will be capped but the Greens say that renters shouldn't be forced to pay fees at all.

The Victorian Greens' spokesperson for Renters Right's Gabrielle de Vietri said that landlords don't have to pay fees to their tenants when they break the lease to sell, they just evict them.

As stated by the Victorian Greens spokesperson for Renters' Rights, Gabrielle de Vietri:

"Landlords don't have to pay fees when they break the lease to sell, they just evict their tenants, so why should renters?

"If Labor were listening to renters they'd know the only cap they want is a rent cap.

"If Labor really cared about renters they'd get rid of the fees altogether and cap rents, these pre-election breadcrumbs are exactly why people are fed up with Labor."
