The Victorian Government has announced the appointment of Greg Wilson as the new Chairperson of the Country Fire Authority (CFA) board.
Mr Wilson brings a wealth of experience to the role, having worked closely with CFA and the emergency management sector throughout his extensive public service career.
As the former secretary of the Department of Justice and Regulation, Mr Wilson previously had overall responsibility for Emergency Management Victoria, working closely with CFA and Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
He was also secretary of the former Department of Sustainability and Environment and has extensive experience in forest fire management, bushfires and cross-agency work.
He is currently Chair of the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) and Victoria State Emergency Service (VICSES) and holds a range of other senior roles on boards across the public service.
He will be supported by the existing CFA board, which includes decades of experience in governance, industrial law, public policy, and financial management.
The devastating 2019-20 summer fire season reinforced the indispensable role of the CFA’s 1,220 volunteer brigades in keeping country Victorians safe.
The Victorian Government is building an even stronger, volunteer-based fire service – as part of a $126 million investment for the CFA to go towards critical training and equipment, including more than $37.2 million for critical brigade and volunteer support.
