In tandem with the ongoing redevelopment of the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre, Council will be improving vehicle access to the centre through road rehabilitation works.
At this week's Ordinary Meeting on Tuesday 10 June, Council awarded a contract for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of sections of the Gregadoo Waste Management Centre Road.
Director Economy, Business & Workforce Fiona Piltz said several sections of the main access road through the centre had been identified as being in poor condition.
"As part of the improvement works, the contractor will reconstruct and rehabilitate the existing road pavement and overlay with additional road base material and seal the surface on several sections," Ms Piltz said.
"This will include the sealing of road sections adjacent to the old weighbridge and the access roads leading to and from the transfer station areas, which were not included in the initial project plan and currently remain unsealed.
"Sealing these road sections will significantly reduce airborne dust across the site, improving air quality and reducing health and visibility risks for staff and visitors, particularly during dry and windy conditions."
The upgrade will also provide safer vehicle access, enhance the functionality of the facility and improve the experience for all users of the site of this facility, which is a critical long-term asset for Council.
Council will now work with the contractors to finalise a commencement date for construction and a schedule of works.
