Grievous bodily harm at Sunshine Coast

Detectives have launched an investigation after the alleged serious assault of a baby on the Sunshine Coast last month.

On Sunday, March 22 a 28-year-old woman and another woman attended the Sunshine Coast University Hospital with the three-week old who was unconscious at the time.

Due to the serious nature of her injuries, the infant was taken to the Queensland Children's Hospital to undergo further medical assessment.

After a month-long investigation, detectives from the Sunshine Coast Child Protection Investigation unit have charged a 28-year-old Ilkley woman with grievous bodily harm.

She appeared before the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Saturday and was bailed to reappear on July 3.

The child remains in hospital with life threatening injuries.

Detectives are piecing together a timeline of events and are seeking the assistance from the public to help fully understand the circumstances of what happened.
