Grievous bodily harm charge at Doomadgee, QLD

Police have charged a man following an alleged serious assault at Doomadgee yesterday evening (October 9), Queensland Police say.

At about 7.30pm, it is alleged a verbal argument occurred between two men at a Wattle Street address.

During the altercation, it is alleged a 54-year-old man was punched to the head, hit with a piece of timber numerous times before being pulled to the ground and struck again.

It is alleged the second man fled the scene a short time later.

The injured man was flown to Townsville Hospital for treatment in a serious condition.

On the morning of October 10, police took a 26-year-old man into custody who was subsequently charged with one count of grievous bodily harm and will appear in the Doomadgee Magistrates Court on October 11.
