Grievous bodily harm charge at Murphys Creek

A 23-year-old man has been charged in relation to the alleged serious assault of a man at Murphys Creek, in the Lockyer Valley, last night.

At approximately 6pm at a Thursa Street address, it will be alleged a 23-year-old man began a verbal altercation with a 73-year-old man known to him, before allegedly assaulting him.

The 73-year-old Lockyer man suffered serious injuries and was transported to Toowoomba Base Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police located the 23-year-old Murphys Creek man at a nearby address a short time later, where he was taken into custody.

It will be alleged he attempted to resist arrest.

During the arrest, a police officer sustained a dog bite injury. They were transported to hospital in a stable condition for treatment, and have since been released.

The 23-year-old man has been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm and obstruct police.

His bail was refused and he is expected to appear before Toowoomba Magistrates Court today, March 23.
