Grievous bodily harm charge at Vincent

Townsville detectives have charged a 19-year-old man with grievous bodily harm following an alleged robbery at Hivers Street on August 5.

Police will allege about 12.30pm, a 76-year-old woman was walking along Hivers Street when a man on a BMX bike, rode up beside her and snatched her bag.

The man then allegedly took the purse from the bag and threw the bag on the road.

The woman fell to the ground, sustaining a shoulder injury.

She was transported to hospital for treatment by Queensland Ambulance Service personnel.

Following investigations, detectives from the Townsville CPIU yesterday charged a 19-year-old Kirwan man with one count each of grievous bodily harm and stealing.

He was denied police bail and is due to appear in Townsville Magistrates Court today (August 25).
