A man has been charged with grievous bodily harm following an alleged assault of a police officer in Mount Isa overnight, Queensland Police say.
At about 7:15pm officers attended George McCoy Park in Mount Isa following complaints of people drinking in the area.
It will be alleged as police spoke to a man he assaulted a male officer, punching him in the face and causing him to fall to the ground.
The man then allegedly fled the scene and was later located at an address on Bougainville Street in Soldiers Hill where he was taken into custody after resisting arrest.
A 32-year-old male constable was transported to Mount Isa Base Hospital for treatment of facial injuries, including a fractured jaw.
A 24-year-old Mount Isa man has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm, resisting arrest and obstruct police and two counts of assault police.
He is due to appear court today.
