Griffith Cemetery Lawn Reservations Revamped

Griffith City Council's Cemetery Masterplan Committee has reviewed the availability of reservations within Griffith Cemetery, with remaining space in the Lawn Section now falling below the required threshold for new reservations.

As a result, reservations will no longer be taken in the Lawn Section. The Cemetery will continue to operate as normal, with burial services and interments unaffected.

This change is being made in accordance with Council's Cemetery Management Plan, which provides for reservations to cease in Lawn sections when available space falls below a set planning threshold. Council is taking a proactive approach to ensure the long-term sustainability and orderly management of burial spaces.

Council uses long term data trends, including a five-year moving average of burial activity from 2007 to present, which shows approximately 105 burials occur each year across the Cemetery. Not all of these occur in Lawn sections, however this planning approach helps ensure future needs are met.

Importantly, Lawn burials will continue to be available at the time of need, and other areas of the Cemetery remain unaffected by this change.

Council is also working through options to develop additional burial areas within the existing Cemetery site to support future demand.

Council thanks the community for its understanding as it continues to ensure respectful, well planned and sustainable cemetery services.
