Griffith Council Marks Local Government Week 2025

From connecting callers to curating collections, Griffith City Council showcased the many ways it serves the community during Local Government Week.

Local Government Week ran from 4 to 10 August 2025, providing an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the broad range of services and initiatives delivered by Council and to recognise the contributions of Councillors, staff and dedicated volunteers.

Tuesday's morning tea allowed Council to acknowledge the volunteers who play a vital role in the community, supporting facilities such as Pioneer Park Museum and the Tourism Hub, as well as those serving as Community Representatives on Council Committees.

Locals got a closer look inside the Tourism Hub on Wednesday, discovering how the team supports locals and visitors in exploring all that Griffith has to offer while enjoying scones and a cuppa.

On Thursday, a special Council Café was held at Griffith City Library, where residents took the opportunity to chat with Councillors and staff, enjoy free giveaways and share their feedback.

Throughout the week, Griffith Regional Aquatic Leisure Centre (GRALC) offered free fitness classes to help celebrate.

Council launched the Postcards of Kindness project, inviting local children to brighten the lives of nursing home residents with heartfelt messages. Schools have warmly embraced the initiative, helping spread kindness through postcards delivered to aged care facilities across Griffith.

The Local Government Week colouring-in competition for children aged 4 to 12 proved popular. The winning entries were:

  • Age 4–6: Ledger Scremin
  • Age 7–9: Emma DeValentin
  • Age 10–12: Natalie Haskins

Meanwhile, on social media, we celebrated Griffith's 109th birthday with an album of historic photos, shared fast facts about rubbish collection and acknowledged our dedicated staff and Councillors.
