Griffith City Council is inviting feedback from the community to better understand the concerns and experiences that affect women, girls and gender diverse people's feelings of safety in and around public spaces through the Her Way 2680: Inclusive Places project.
Delivered through the NSW Government's Safer Cities: Her Way 2 program, led by Transport for NSW, the project will develop a gender-inclusive placemaking strategy within the Griffith Central Business District (CBD) and key walking, cycling and public transport connections.
Community input will help Council better understand how people experience public spaces including streets, parks, pathways, car parks, transport areas and identify opportunities to improve infrastructure, activations, design and amenities.
The survey will explore the factors that influence whether people feel comfortable using these public spaces in the CBD during the day and after dark, including lighting, visibility, footpaths, crossings, maintenance, activity levels, access and the presence of other people.
Griffith City Council has successfully secured $150,000 through the NSW Government's funding under the Safer Cities: Her Way 2 grant program to deliver the Her Way 2680: Inclusive Places project.
Minister for Transport John Graham said it is incredibly important for people to feel safe while walking along local streets, no matter what time of day it is.
"By working closely with the community, we can create spaces that are accessible, welcoming and inclusive for women, girls and gender diverse people in the Griffith CBD, he said.
Council encourages residents to think about the places they regularly use, the routes they take, whether there are locations or times they avoid, and what changes could make them feel more comfortable and confident moving around Griffith CBD.
The results will provide Council with a stronger evidence base to guide future public space planning, infrastructure upgrades, maintenance priorities and place activation initiatives.
The CBD Perceptions of Safety Survey opens on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, and will remain open throughout September, closing at the end of October.
