A group of people who were reported lost within a national park in the state's Central Tablelands have been found safe and well.
About 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday 9 August 2020), officers attached to Chifley Police District received reports that 10 people had become lost within the Abercrombie National Park near Oberon.
Police were told the group were occupying five vehicles, and had become lost after entering the park via Brass Walls Road.
A multi-agency search commenced, however it was suspended due to unsafe terrain, heavy rain and at times snow.
About 8am today (Monday 10 August 2020), emergency services were able to retrieve the group with the assistance of a local landowner.
No-one was injured as a result of the incident.
Police remind the public to always plan ahead when travelling in unfamiliar or remote areas.
"It was fortunate that in this instance they had phone reception and were able to communicate their geographical position via the Emergency Application which resulted in a positive outcome," Chief Inspector Chris Sammut said.
"It is also important to note that weather can sometimes change quickly, and that needs to be taken into account before planning your trip to make sure you are prepared."
