December 10, 2018 – Thessalon, ON – Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario - FedNor

Communities and businesses throughout Algoma will benefit from increased tourism thanks to a Government of Canada investment of $55,000. This FedNor funding will enable the Algoma Kinniwabi Travel Association to build new touring products for external visitors, promote the region as a destination of choice and provide enhanced opportunities for local businesses.

The funding was announced today by the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for FedNor.

Specifically, the investment is enabling the Algoma Kinniwabi Travel Association to develop its Group of Seven-themed website, known as Moments of Algoma, that allows consumers to plan their own tour and utilize the integrated app while travelling. The project will also assist with the installation of themed signage along the route, as well as provide training for tourism operators to help maximize business opportunities related to local sites made famous by the celebrated Canadian painters

"The Government of Canada is proud to support the efforts of the Algoma Kinniwabi Travel Association and its partners to promote the region's many natural assets. Theme-based tourism can be a significant economic driver and this project will help grow the local tourism industry as well as position the Algoma region as a world-class international tourism destination."
