Growing our cycle tourism sector

The Hodgman Liberal Government’s Cycle Tourism Strategy is growing the sector and creating jobs while highlighting the numerous benefits that cycling brings to Tasmania.

Cycle tourism is one of the State’s strongest competitive advantages with thousands of visitors jumping on a bike each year to enjoy what Tasmania has to offer.

Today I was pleased to meet with members of Central Launceston Rotary Club who are organisers of Sally’s Ride Tamar Valley Cycling Challenge charity event.

Sally’s Ride is helping to promote the benefits of cycling in our state and is attracting interstate visitors, while having the added benefit of encouraging more Tasmanians to jump on a bike and get active.

Our goal is to make Tasmania the healthiest population in the nation by 2025, and as the patron for Cycling Tasmania I am a proud advocate of cycling and the numerous health benefits it brings.

To assist in reaching this goal, I encourage Tasmanian clubs, associations, local government and other not-for-profit providers of sport and recreation- such as cycling- to apply for grants under the 2018-19 Sport and Recreation Minor and Major Grants Programs.

We know that high quality sport and recreation facilities are critical in encouraging more people to participate, and these grants will provide assistance to organisations that promote sport, recreation and an active lifestyle in Tasmania.

Applications for the Minor Grants Program close on the 12th of September, 2018 and applications for the Major Grants Program must be received by 1 November, 2018.
