Guild Boosts $1.5M Fund for Victoria Pharmacist Training

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch has expanded its pharmacist prescribing training scholarship, which will enable more patients to access healthcare services in local pharmacies, sooner.

Following the Victorian Government's recognition of all Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) accredited postgraduate pharmacist prescribing courses, the Guild announced a $1.5 million fund to support the development of a full scope pharmacist workforce in Victoria.

The Pharmacist Prescribing Training Fund will now be available to Victorian Guild member pharmacists and their sponsored employees undertaking other APC-accredited postgraduate courses, including those offered by the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) and tertiary education providers, such as Monash University.

"By including the PSA's Pharmacist Prescribing Scope of Practice Training Program and other recognised courses in our scholarship offering, we're opening the door for more members to access training sooner," said Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Victoria Branch President, George Tambassis.

"Community pharmacies play a vital role providing in accessible and affordable healthcare across Victoria. We are pleased to support our members to offer patients a higher level of care for an increasing number of everyday health conditions at their local pharmacy – when and where they need it," Mr Tambassis said.

Under the program, eligible applicants will receive up to $5,000 in reimbursement upon successful completion of recognised APC-accredited courses. Funding is available to financial members of the Guild's Victoria Branch and their employees. Scholarships are limited to one pharmacist per member pharmacy and are available until funding is exhausted.
