Guinean Opposition Activist's Relatives Disappear

OHCHR

The apparent enforced disappearance of family members of Guinean opposition activist Elie Kamano is deeply alarming. We urge the authorities to take all necessary steps to ensure their immediate and safe return to their loved ones, and to conduct a prompt, thorough and impartial investigation into their disappearance and bring those responsible to justice.

Armed men reportedly broke into Kamano's home in Conakry at around 4am on Sunday and took his two sons and two nephews - all aged under 18 - as well as his adult cousin. Only the youngest of the children, aged 7, has since been released.

We also call on the authorities to disclose the fate and whereabouts of at least five other individuals we believe may have been subjected to enforced disappearance, among them activists Foniké Mengué and Mamadou Billo Bah, former Secretary General of the Ministry of Mines Saadou Nimaga and journalist Habib Marouane Camara.
