Gun And Cash Found After Maribyrnong Arrest

Police have located a loaded firearm and cash after a man fled from police early this morning.

A speeding Mercedes drew the attention of detectives when they came across it travelling along the Nepean Highway at Brighton East about 12.15am.

Officers attempted to intercept the allegedly stolen vehicle however the driver refused to pullover and fled.

The vehicle was monitored as it travelled into Melbourne's north-western suburbs.

The driver dumped the vehicle in the carpark of a Maribyrnong business on Rosamund Road and fled on foot about 12.40am.

As the man was running from the scene, he allegedly threw a bag into bushes on a vacant block.

Police were hot on his trail and safely took the 22-year-old into custody.

The Dog Squad was then put on the case, with the canine soon sniffing out and locating the dumped bag which allegedly loaded a gun and cash.

The Truganina man will be interviewed by detectives in relation to the matter.
