Gunnedah Youth Expo Highlights Career, Learning Pathways

Gunnedah Shire Council

Career pathways for young people are the focus of a free expo in Gunnedah on Thursday, 23 April.

Gunnedah Shire Mayor OAM Colleen Fuller said the annual Gunnedah Shire Council event during NSW Youth Week was the ideal way to help young people to find out what's available to them in their own Shire and beyond.

Stall holders at the annual expo will include local businesses and organisations, universities, TAFE and the Australian Defence Force. This year, agricultural pathways will be highlighted for those who want to pursue farming, ag tech, livestock, machinery, and supply chain industries.

"The Expo helps bridge the gap between employers and young job seekers," Mayor Fuller said.

"It provides a central hub for students to explore real employment and training pathways, and a chance for businesses to meet the next generation of workers."

Council will also be there with information about career and trainee opportunities. Between December 2025 and February 2026, six trainees and apprentices started their careers in local government at Council in the fields of finance, compliance and safety, records management, customer service and governance.

"I'm thrilled to see so many young faces at Council," Mayor Fuller said.

"Local government is a fantastic career path with so many opportunities, and our young people can experience it all within their own community.

"I encourage our young people to speak to the experienced staff at the Council stall to find out what is available to them.

"The Expo also give young people ample time to speak to potential employers about job openings, what they are looking for in an employee, and how to go about applications. "

Gunnedah Youth Expo is a free event for youth aged 14-24, along with parents and carers, in the Town Hall on Thursday, April 23, 2026 from 9am to 3pm.

The community-lead partnership is supported by the NSW Government through the Youth Week Grants Program.
