Transport for NSW and Griffith City Council are boosting biodiversity at Campbell's Wetland, six kilometres north of Griffith.
When road safety work on Kidman Way meant removing trees too close to the road, Transport for NSW's Road Maintenance & Resilience and Environment and Sustainability teams partnered with Council on a Tree and Hollow Replacement Plan; matching the environmental outcome to the safety one.
New native trees and habitat hollows are now in place at the wetland, a favourite spot for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers thanks to its abundant birdlife.
The project builds on earlier conservation work and supports Transport's commitment to no net loss of biodiversity, providing a great example of Transport and local government working together to benefit both the community and the environment.
