Hanwood cycleway takes shape

Griffith City Council's new $1.375 million cycleway is taking shape with construction and major drainage works currently being carried out.

Council received funding from the NSW Active Transport Priority Cycleways Program to construct the Hanwood Cycleway running from Bunnings to Murphy Road (Baiada).

Construction commenced in April this year and is expected to be complete by March 2020.

When fully constructed the cycleway will be 2.5 metre-wide and include two pedestrian bridge crossings, one of these featuring a unique 20 metre single span bridge design. This eye-catching arch bridge will be located beside the Kidman Way on Main Drain J.

The second bridge included along the route will be a standard pedestrian design bridge at the intersection of Beaumont Road.

Funding for the project consists of $975,000 from the NSW Active Transport Program, $350,000 from Council and a $50,000 contribution from Baiada.

As a result of this new cycleway community members will have improved access to facilities and a healthier lifestyle.
