Queensland Rail is urging customers to stay alert and take simple steps to stay safe around the rail network after releasing shocking new vision of close calls and tumbles at train stations.

Footage released by Queensland Rail ahead of TrackSafe Foundation's Rail Safety Week captures a number of risky behaviours including a harrowing near miss between an unsecured dog, its owner and a train, falls down stairs and dangerous last-minute attempts to beat closing train doors.
Thankfully, the near-miss involving the unsecured dog resulted in no injuries, but last financial year there were 332 customers who were hurt on the SEQ network.
While these figures are trending down compared to previous years, one injury is one too many.
Queensland Rail General Manager Security and Emergency Preparedness Drew Brock said the confronting vision demonstrates how quickly everyday travel can turn into a serious incident if safety isn't taken seriously.
"Usually, people are hurt because they're running, distracted by their phones or trying to beat closing doors," Mr Brock said
"We're also seeing a lot of incidents involving luggage, bikes or scooters on escalators.
"Take your time, avoid rushing and distractions, hold the handrail and stay behind the yellow line.
"We also remind customers that the only animals allowed on our trains and stations are certified assistance animals and they must be restrained."
Rail safety tips from Queensland Rail:
• Stay behind the yellow line until the train comes to a complete stop.
• When travelling with small children, hold their hands and mind the gap.
• Use lifts or ramps when carrying large items.
• Pay attention to your surroundings. Look up, not down at your phone, when walking through stations, on platforms, and when boarding or disembarking.
• Plan your journey and arrive early - avoid rushing for your train.
