Have your say on West Tamar Highway, Launceston to north of Legana

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

Community consultation is now open for feedback on the West Tamar Highway between the Launceston CBD and McEwans Road, north of Legana.

The Department of State Growth is undertaking a corridor study on this section of road. The study will identify options to improve safety and connectivity between West Tamar communities and Launceston for all modes of transport.

Our roads are quieter at the moment, but it's important we keep working now to improve infrastructure for future generations.

The community is being asked to comment on the areas they believe need improving on the West Tamar Highway. The feedback will be used to inform the next stages of the study, which will involve future planning and prioritising future projects.

This corridor study is being done in conjunction with a feasibility study for a new Tamar River Crossing.

The project supports the Tasmanian Liberal Government's commitment to Launceston and Tamar Valley traffic management.

We have also committed $1.5 million to improving cycling facilities between Launceston and Legana, which includes resealing and widening of road shoulders to provide an improved surface for cyclists. Preliminary designs are currently being developed for this project and will be available in mid-2020.

Feedback on the current corridor study can be provided via an online interactive map, available on the Transport website www.transport.tas.gov.au/westtamarstudy

The feedback period will close on Friday, May 8, 2020.
