The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service in conjunction with the Rural Fire Service is planning to conduct a hazard reduction burn to reduce bush fire fuel levels and protect local community assets within Marramarra National Park from Thursday 20 April, weather permitting.
Around 600 hectares will be treated. Smoke may impact visibility on Canoelands Road to the north, Old Northern Road to the west and Duckponds Ridge Trail to the south.
It is important this burn goes ahead to help protect residents and businesses from future large fire events. It will also help to maintain biodiversity and reduce fuel loads in the area.
The operation will depend on suitable weather conditions. If weather conditions are unfavourable on the planned days, the burn will be rescheduled for following days.
Depending on conditions, other burns may also be carried out in the region next week so smoke may be visible in the area for several days.

People with asthma or who are susceptible to respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors.
The hazard reduction burn will be a joint operation between National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and the NSW Rural Fire Service.

The hazard reduction burn at Canoelands in Marramarra National Park is one of many hazard reductions the NPWS has planned in the Greater Sydney area this autumn, weather permitting.
