National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and RFS will be conducting a hazard reduction burn in Prospect Nature Reserve on Thursday 1 October and Friday 2 October, subject to suitable weather conditions.
The 95 hectare burn is located on the western side of Prospect Nature Reserve, bounded to the east by Prospect Reservoir, to the west and north by fire trails, and to the south by established control lines.
The aim of the burn is to reduce the chance of bushfire impacts to the park, neighbouring businesses and nearby communities.
Smoke may be visible from nearby roads and motorways, including the M4, M7 and Reservoir Road at Prospect. Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and are advised to take care if visibility is reduced by smoke.
Smoke may affect the area and people with asthma or other respiratory problems are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors, close windows and doors, and follow their health plan.
This burn is one of many hazard reduction operations undertaken by NPWS across NSW each year, many with assistance from the Rural Fire Service and Fire and Rescue NSW.
These hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect the parks, their natural and cultural values, neighbours and communities from summer bushfires.
