The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is planning a hazard reduction burn in South East Forest National Park from Sunday 12 March, weather permitting.
The burn will take place along Cemetery Road at Rocky Hall, east of Bombala, in the central Coolangubra section of the park.
This area of the park will be closed to visitors during burning operations.
This 17-hectare burn aims to reduce naturally accumulated fuel loads in the reserve to protect park neighbours and important assets.
This area of the park was not directly impacted by the 2019–20 bushfires, so this burn will protect nearby communities and maintain biodiversity to ensure the ongoing recovery of native fauna and flora in the reserve.
This burn will be undertaken in a Strategic Fire Advantage Zone (SFAZ) and also provide firefighters safe zones and access where they can defend properties should a bushfire occur.
This burn is one of the many that NPWS is planning in national parks along the South Coast during autumn.
All burns around the state will continue being coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
