Hazard Reduction Burns Across Sydney This Week |

Ideal weather conditions are enabling the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), with support from NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) and Fire and Rescue NSW, to undertake hazard reduction burns across Sydney this week to reduce the bushfire risk to communities.

Hazard reduction burns will take place in: Royal National Park on Wednesday 22 April, Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park on Thursday 23 April and Wolli Creek Regional on Friday 21 April.

A 350 hectare hazard reduction burn at Goarra in Royal National Park, north of East Heathcote starts Wednesday 22 April and is expected to run for three days.

The 230 hectare Powerline Trail hazard reduction burn in Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, near Mount Colah, will start on Thursday 23 April and is expected to run for three days.

The Powerline Trail hazard reduction burn will result in the closure of Apple Tree Bay boat ramp and picnic area, and the closure of the Ku-ring-gai Chase Road between the M1 freeway exit and Bobbin Head from 8:00am Thursday 23 until 8:00pm Friday 24 April.

The Nanny Goat Hill hazard reduction burn in Wolli Creek Regional Park, near the suburbs of Earlwood and Bardwell Park, is planned for Friday 24 April.

All trails and tracks in the areas will be closed during hazard reduction burn operations and reopen once they have been assessed as safe.

In the case of smoke reaching roads, motorists are advised drive to conditions, and follow signs and directions from fire crews.

Hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce risk from bushfire to help protect parks, neighbours and communities.

Across the state, all hazard reduction burns are coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community, especially from smoke, is assessed at a regional level.
