43A Pirie Street, New Town

The Hobart City Council's Planning Authority Committee has approved a development application for partial demolition, alterations, extension and change of use to boarding house (21 units) for 43A Pirie Street, New Town.

The proposal involves partially demolishing parts of the existing building and pond, adding a second storey, and creating 21 self-contained studio units. Each unit includes a bedroom, kitchen, lounge, ensuite, and some have private courtyards. The ground floor will feature 11 units, a lift, stairs, communal courtyard, and support facilities. The first floor will include 10 units and a shared laundry. External changes include new fencing, landscaping, eight car parks, six bike spaces, and bin storage. The building will use mixed cladding materials and reach a maximum height of 7.75 metres.

The Planning Authority Committee welcomed additional housing of this nature, which is much needed in our municipality.

10-14 Davey Street, Hobart

The Hobart City Council's Planning Authority Committee has approved a development application for partial demolition and alterations for 10-14 Davey Street, Hobart.

The proposal includes internal demolition and layout changes, including a new platform lift. External light fixtures will be removed, but there are no changes to operating hours or signage. Temporary furniture is shown on the adjoining title, consistent with previous approvals.

Officer level development applications approved between 30 July and 11 August 2025

Between Hobart City Council Planning Authority Committee meetings, the City's Planning Officers are busy reviewing a range of residential and commercial development applications for Hobart.

Since the last meeting, 20 development applications delegated to council officers were also approved while 13 development applications are currently being advertised.

A reminder that the Council has a planner on duty during office hours which members of the community can call through our Customer Services to check to see whether any development or work to a garden will require planning approval.
