Health and Wellbeing at heart of community

The University of Huddersfield's Health and Wellbeing Academy officially launched on 16 June 2022, offering a wide range of health and care services to communities.

Dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of communities through its innovative and collaborative approach, the Health and Wellbeing Academy provides services to the public, as well as a valuable and real-world learning experiences for students.

When the first building on the site of the new National Health Innovation Campus opens on the Southgate site in the centre of Huddersfield (scheduled for 2024), the Health and Wellbeing Academy will form part of this new and exciting development and benefit from brand new state-of-the-art facilities. In the meantime, the Health and Wellbeing Academy operates from the Huddersfield Queensgate campus and off-campus in communities using a new Mobile Clinic vehicle that has been kitted out with clinical equipment.

Strategic Director of the Health and Wellbeing Academy, Professor Joanne Garside commented:

The Health and Wellbeing Academy brings together four key areas:

Clinical and Wellbeing Services

The clinical services offered complement the provision of the NHS, other local health and care providers, and social care providers and the wellbeing services are designed to help people to make informed and positive lifestyle choices to improve their health and wellbeing.

The service includes a Mobile Clinic vehicle which enables the team to bring these services directly into the different communities in the area. Further services are currently being developed and added to the services already available.

Research and Evaluation

With health and care at the heart of the academy, research and evaluation is designed to inform health and care workforce policy and practices, with a view to continual improvement.

This applied research has real world impact, and any research findings are shared widely to reach as many health and care professionals as possible.
