Health Minister must go

· Labor has no confidence in Michael Ferguson

· Health crisis is escalating under Minister's watch

· Doctors have warned people are dying

Labor Leader Rebecca White said the health crisis would be the burning issue when Parliament returns.

"We are determined to hold the Liberal Government to account for its failure to deliver on health," Ms White said.

"Over the past five years there have been consistent warning signs that the crisis in our health system is escalating.

"We have had patients sleeping on the floor of the emergency department.

"There have been proposals to put patients in storage rooms with bells to attract attention.

"Mental health patients have been discharged with nothing more than a bus ticket to get home.

"The government's own consultants have warned hospitals have been systematically underfunded by around $100 million each and every year.

"Doctors warned that people would die if nothing was done. And now we are seeing those worst fears come true.

"Yet every time the crisis gets worse, Michael Ferguson's blind assurances that everything is fine get more insistent.

"We have come to expect patch jobs and short term fixes from this government that are designed to fix a political problem but do not address the systematic failures.

"Enough is enough. Michael Ferguson has to go.

"We cannot, in good conscience, stand by while people die because of the crisis in our health system.

"We will be moving a no confidence motion in the Health Minister this week.

"I ask all members of Parliament to reflect on this Minister's record and his past hollow promises to fix the system which have amounted to nothing.

"Health needs a complete reset. It needs a new Minister."
