Health service charged after patient death

Monash Health is facing a single charge under section 23(1) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for failing to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, that persons other than employees were not exposed to health and safety risks.

The patient took their own life while undergoing treatment in the hospital's acute mental health unit in 2015.

The matter is listed for a filing hearing at the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 2 February 2023.
