Heavy-vehicle crash blocks M1 at Lake Macquarie, NSW

Two drivers escaped injury but the Pacific Motorway was closed southbound for four hours after a crash involving a B-double and a line-marking truck at Lake Macquarie overnight, NSW Police say.

The crash happened about 11pm (Monday 23 April 2018), when a southbound B-double prime mover, loaded with steel, hit the back of a slow-moving line-marking truck, also travelling south, at Mandalong.

As a result, all southbound lanes were blocked by the damaged vehicles.

The Pacific Motorway was closed to southbound traffic from 11pm to 3.05am (Tuesday 24 April 2018), while the site was examined and the wreckage removed. Traffic was diverted through Toronto and Cooranbong.

All lanes re-opened shortly after 3am.

Neither driver was injured and both returned a negative roadside breath test.
