Seaford Tigers Cricket Club's Helen James has been recognised as Cricket Victoria's Kookaburra Volunteer of the Month for March 2026, following her outstanding contribution to creating a more inclusive and welcoming club environment.
Already a driving force behind the club's junior programs and Woolworths Cricket Blast initiatives, Helen has taken her impact to another level by launching an All-Abilities Cricket Blast program – one of only two of its kind in Victoria.
The program has gone from strength to strength, doubling in participation and providing children of all abilities in the Seaford community with the opportunity to be actively involved in cricket. More than just a program, it has created a space where participants feel valued, included and part of their local sporting community.
Helen's commitment to inclusion extends well beyond structured programs.
After coming into contact with a member of the local community experiencing homelessness, Helen chose to act. She opened the doors of Seaford Tigers Cricket Club, welcoming the individual into the club environment. Since then, they have become a valued part of the club, assisting with set up and pack up, while finding comfort and connection through being involved.
It's a gesture that reflects the true spirit of community cricket – going above and beyond to ensure everyone has a place to belong.
Helen's efforts set a powerful example for clubs across the state, demonstrating how cricket can be a vehicle for inclusion, support and meaningful connection.
Cricket Victoria congratulates Helen James on a well-deserved recognition as Kookaburra Volunteer of the Month. Helen will receive a $200 Kookaburra Cricket voucher for Seaford Tigers Cricket Club as the Kookaburra Volunteer of the Month for March 2026.
