InFocus: Queer & Disabled - Share Your Story
InFocus: Queer & Disabled is a digital storytelling campaign led by PWDA, centring the voices and lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people with disability.
This campaign is about visibility, self-expression and community - stories told by us, on our terms.
Running alongside our 2026 Pride celebrations, including Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, Melbourne's Midsumma Pride March, and PWDA's national online Pride event.
It's a chance for our community to connect, share stories, and proudly shine in the spotlight. InFocus highlights our rights, pride, and resistance, advocating for a truly inclusive society that values and celebrates our diversity.
Who can take part?
All PWDA members who identify as LGBTQIA+ are invited to submit a story.
What kind of stories are we looking for?
We encourage you to focus on one moment, idea or feeling, such as:
- A time you felt proud, visible or connected
- Your experience of being an LGBTQIA+ person with disability
- Something you wish people better understood about LGBTQIA+ people with disability.
Your story doesn't need to be polished or professional. You don't need to justify your identity. Your voice matters as it is.
How to get started
Step 1: Send us a brief outline
Send a short introduction about yourself and your proposed topic (3-4 sentences) to [email protected] or via the form below. The Communications Team will review it and let you know if it's a good fit for the campaign.
To help keep contributors and audiences safe, content that is discriminatory, defamatory, or potentially traumatising will not be approved.
Step 2: Create your story
Once approved, you can choose one or more formats:
- Short video (30-90 seconds)
- Written story (500-800 words)
- Audio story (up to 2 minutes)
Please include 1-3 photographs we can use to promote your story.
Helpful tips:
- Briefly introduce who you are
- Use clear, plain language
- Include links or references if citing facts or statistics
Publication and payment
To publish your story, you'll need to complete the PWDA Content Publication Consent Form. This allows PWDA to share your story across reports, websites, social media, events and other publications.
Approved contributors will receive $100 (via invoice or gift card) once their story is published. Payments are processed within 14 days, provided all paperwork is received.
Submissions close: 28 February 2026
