Help Shape Future Emergency Responses In Lorne

The Lorne community is invited to have its say on ways to further strengthen the response to emergency events impacting the town.

Locals stepped up in extraordinary fashion to help evacuated campers on 15 January this year.

While Lorne is fully open and welcoming visitors, residents are now considering how to prepare for future emergencies.

We're assisting by gathering ideas about what worked, what was challenging, and what would make the response stronger.

Community members can complete a short online survey, which is open now.

Council staff will be in Lorne on Thursday 23 April for in person discussions at the following locations:

  • 10am-12pm outside the Riverbank Café, 6 Mountjoy Parade
  • 2pm-4pm outside Lorne Books, 108 Mountjoy Parade

Councillor Leon Walker encouraged the Lorne community to take part.

"We saw an amazing response from the town's leaders, organisations and individuals during a time of need in January," Cr Walker said.

"The care and generosity from so many people was inspiring.

"Learning from real life events is the best way to be prepared for the future.

"We want to hear what people thought went well and what could be strengthened, and we'll pass that on to a community-led working group, to help with emergency response planning and preparedness."

We will also draw on the insights for our own planning and support around future emergency events.

We've previously surveyed local businesses to understand the economic impacts, so this survey focuses on residents' experiences.

The survey will close on 17 May.
