Bass Coast Shire Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from community members to join the new Wonthaggi Planning and Projects Community Reference Group (CRG).
The CRG will play an important role in shaping the future of Wonthaggi through two key projects, the Wonthaggi Structure Plan Review and planning for the former Wonthaggi Secondary College site.
Mayor Cr Rochelle Halstead said Council was seeking community members who are passionate about Wonthaggi and want to contribute to its future direction.
"Wonthaggi is our regional centre. It is a place of growth, creativity and community.
This reference group is an opportunity for local people to help guide how our town evolves " Cr Halstead said.
"We're looking for a diverse group of community members with different perspectives and experiences who can represent our community and bring thoughtful, constructive feedback to the table."
The Community Reference Group will meet five times between late 2025 and mid-2026, guided by an experienced facilitator and supported by Council's Strategic Planning and Major Projects teams. Members will consider a range of background information, hear from experts, and develop recommendations for Council's consideration.
Applicants don't need to be experts, just collaborative, and committed to attending and contributing to the discussions. Council is seeking representation across a broad range of community interests including residents, business owners, environmental and heritage groups, recreational users, youth, and cultural organisations.
The group will provide feedback and recommendations to Council on planning for Wonthaggi's growth, land use, infrastructure, and community spaces. It will help ensure that decisions reflect local values and aspirations while balancing environmental, social, and economic priorities.
