"Council has heard loud and clear its community does not want to hold up this important project, so we are taking the discussion online," Strathbogie Shire Council Mayor, Cr Chris Raeburn said.
Council had planned a Climate Change Forum in July but was forced to postpone due to coronavirus (COVID-19) restrictions.
"With ongoing restrictions, we have made the decision to move this community engagement to an online format," he said.
"We know our community is keen to continue these discussions and we're keen to continue our work to develop a Climate Change Action Plan."
Council has assembled a panel of climate experts who are sharing their expertise with our community through videos at www.share.strathbogie.vic.gov.au
Panellists include:
- Professor Kate Auty. EPA chair, former Victorian Commissioner for Environmental Sustainability and ACT Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment
- Cr Jenny O'Connor. Mayor - Indigo Council
- Bronwyn Chapman. Executive Officer Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance
- Cr Sally Hayes-Burke. Councillor Strathbogie Shire Council
- Cam Klose. Campaign Director - Farmers for Climate Action
The community will not only be able to watch videos of each panellist, it can participate in online Q&As and complete a survey to help prioritise actions.
This year Strathbogie Shire Council became the 100th Council in Australia to declare a Climate Emergency and just the third to pass this Notice of Motion unanimously.
"Council and our community are passionate about our environment and about protecting the special place we call home for future generations," he said.
"By working together we can develop a Climate Change Action Plan that lays out how we will support climate action - that's mitigation, adaption and resilience efforts - for our community in the coming years."
