A comprehensive planning approach for Cardiff's town centre will unlock the suburb's potential and capitalise on its growing focus as a business, transport and residential hub.
Lake Macquarie City Council is calling for feedback on three key documents that will guide future improvements to create a thriving vibrant centre, broadening its living, working and business opportunities.
Manager Integrated Planning Wes Hain said central to the draft Cardiff Strategic Planning Framework and accompanying Cardiff Area Plan and Cardiff Transport Management Plan was the creation of more pedestrian and cycle infrastructure.
"Cardiff is a very important hub in our North West Lake Macquarie Catalyst Area, which is one of our focus areas for infrastructure investment," Mr Hain said.
"We want to realise its full potential for new and existing residents, workers, businesses, shoppers, visitors and travellers."
"Our draft plans outline more walking and cycling opportunities, new public spaces, greener streets, investment in smart technology, high quality buildings, simpler and more efficient parking and more business opportunities which take advantage of business grade high-speed fibre optic communications infrastructure."
One of the proposals identified in the plan is the establishment of 'Cardiff Main Walk', creating a safe, direct and enjoyable walk that connects the railway station with the town centre.
"Main Walk is a centrepiece for Cardiff that would not only provide pleasant and convenient walking but also meeting, outdoor trading and dining opportunities," Mr Hain said.
"This will contribute to the overall wellbeing of the community in years to come."
"Improvements outlined in these draft documents will all serve to create a new Cardiff identity with increased walkability, reduced parking demand and increased pedestrian-based trade that supports community wellbeing and connection."
