Helping More Older Tasmanians To Get Active

Tasmanian Government

A highly successful program that supports older Tasmanians get active by reducing the cost of sport is opening for a second round.

The popular Ticket to Wellbeing program will open for new applications, with a $100 voucher available once again for eligible older Tasmanians to help with the cost of registration for sport or active recreation.

Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the second round of the program followed its October success, which saw all available vouchers exhausted within a few days.

"Many recipients have said how beneficial the financial support can be to staying connected to a sport or active recreation activity that they love," Minister Duigan said.

"We also heard how positive it can be for those trying out an activity for the first time, and so we want to make sure this program continues to benefit as many eligible Tasmanians as possible.

"The program has more than 300 activities registered and is continuing to grow. Eligible older Tasmanians can use the voucher across many different areas including golf, lawn bowls and tennis, through to croquet and tai chi."

Minister for Ageing, Bridget Archer, said the overwhelming response and popularity shows just how valued this program is in our community.

"It's helping older Tasmanians get out, socialise and get moving by participating in sport and active recreation activities in their local communities.

"We are delivering for older Tasmanians by doubling the program's funding to ensure it continues in 2027-28.

"This is about ensuring more older Tasmanians can enjoy the benefits of keeping active.

"I encourage people to get in quick to avoid missing out."

Up to 2,500 vouchers are available in this round and applications will close once all vouchers are issued. Those who received a voucher in the October round, will not be eligible to apply again, allowing more people to benefit.

Eligible Tasmanians, 65 years and over with a valid Services Australia Health Care Card or a Pensioner Concession Card, will be able to apply for a voucher and use it towards a wide range of activities to help them get active locally.
