As part of the recovery effort following the devastating Yarroweyah/Muckatah fire, Moira Shire Council will host a Community Breakfast on Thursday 22 January.
The breakfast will offer support for those whose homes and livelihoods were impacted by the fire. It will also be a big 'thank you' to everyone who responded to the disaster on Friday 9 January – from emergency services personnel who battled the blaze, to the local organisations and communitymembers who have rallied to support the fire victims in the days since.
Moira Shire Council Chair Administrator Dr Graeme Emonson said the Community Breakfast would help people process their grief and distress following the fire, as well as boost their healing and recovery.
"This will be a long and difficult road to recovery for anyone touched by this disaster," Dr Emonson said.
"For the people whose homes, belongings and farms were destroyed or damaged; and for our volunteer firefighters who faced overwhelming odds in catastrophic conditions to get the fire under control before the day was over.
"And we must not forget the families and colleagues who have given their unwavering love and support to victims and first responders."
Dr Emonson said Moira Shire Council staff had been working tirelessly to support those impacted by the fire, through the Moira Recovery Information Centre, on the fireground and behind the scenes.
He said this support will continue for as long as it is needed.
"We hope as many affected people as possible will attend Thursday's Community Breakfast at the Yarroweyah Recreation Reserve.
"Enjoy a free bacon and egg roll provided by the Rapid Relief Team, and free coffee and refreshments from the Odesi Collective's coffee van."
