Her Majesty Queen: Latrobe City Council

On behalf of Latrobe City Council, and our community, we offer our deepest condolences to His Majesty King Charles III, The Royal Family, and all those mourning the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

A consistent figure in the lives of many, Her Majesty was our sovereign who was devoted to her duty and was much loved and respected.

Queen Elizabeth II visited Latrobe City and broader Gippsland, with the Duke of Edinburgh on their first official royal tour of Australia in 1954. The tour included visits to Traralgon and Yallourn on the Royal train, with Her Majesty and the Duke inspecting the Yallourn open cut mine.

Many will fondly recall their experience of lining the streets of Yallourn to welcome the royal visiting party. Images from the event capturing the excitement with large crowds filling the picturesque streets as flags and buntings wafted in the breeze, while a brass band and floats formed a procession as part of the celebrations.

We thank, Your Majesty, for her service, integrity and courage.
