Council has noted the Heritage Advisory Committee's Annual Report 2018-2019.
The committee provides advice to council on how to conserve and promote the unique cultural heritage of Greater Geelong, and acts as an advocate for all cultural heritage matters within the municipality.
The annual report outlines the committee's activities and achievements during the past 12 months, including:
- Forming three active sub-committees, focusing on the areas of 'Heritage Interpretation, Education & Advocacy', 'Strategic Planning, Resourcing & Funding' and 'Heritage at Risk';
- Participating in the development of the draft Conservation Management Plan for City Hall;
- Preparing a budget submission to support and advocate for heritage activities and resources; and
- Requesting the City investigates a number of heritage properties considered at-risk.
Over the next 12 months, the committee will work with the City's new Senior Heritage Planner on delivering the Municipal Heritage Strategy, provide input into the Geelong Thematic History, identify at-risk heritage and promote heritage in Geelong through events and other activities.
Councillor Jim Mason was endorsed as Chair in September 2018, after the committee was formed in March 2018. Members meet bi-monthly and to date, seven meetings have been held.

The group's experienced members are committed to sharing our local heritage and history over the next year.

Greater Geelong is home to significant heritage assets that the committee will continue to advocate for. The appointment of a Senior Heritage Planner will be a great asset to the group, who will work with us.
